This is it. We’re in the home stretch. Bottom of the 9th, bases are loaded with 3G, and Steve Jobs is at bat. In 6 days the new iPhone will be mines and I will find out if it was worth selling my sidekick LX, terminating my T-Mobile contract, fave5 and my $70 a month bill after taxes.
If Apple does the expected and score a home run, it would be a two-peat for smartphone (even gadget) of the year.
The very highly anticipated 3G iPhone has just been announced by Steve Jobs back on the first week of June at Apple's annual WWDC. This time around, the iPhone is everything the old one was but better and amazingly, a lot cheaper. It has thinner edges, a full black plastic back, flush headphone jack, and it will be 36% faster than Nokia's N95 and Treo 750 in terms of pageloads. It also has improved battery life with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video, and 24 hours of audio. It will also come with GPS, so you know where you are all the time.
I mean it even comes in all black and a white version. They will be plastic hard cases so you dont have to worry about the scratches on the back. I mean Apple is also working on an application store so that various applications can be purchased for the new iPhone.
The only downside to owning this iPhone 3g is the phone plan increase.
All of AT&T's individual iPhone 3G calling plans have risen $10 when compared to those offered alongside the original iPhone. That's because AT&T is now charging $30 for the bundled unlimited data plans rather than $20, as it expects subscribers to increase their internet usage and throughput as a result of the new iPhone's 3G chip, which downloads about twice as fast as the EDGE chip in the original iPhone.
AT&T has obnoxiously reduced the number of standard SMS messages included with each plan from 200 to zero. To get those 200 text messages back, subscribers will have to pay $5.00 more per month.
And yes the iPhone doesnt have the copy and paste feature that all smartphones have. But doesn't that help us out in the long run? I mean the iPhone is going to be a tough texting task for me since Im coming off 1 and a half years with the sidekick 3 and LX. I was so use to texting without looking at the keypad but now its time for a new challenge. I frequently found myself making 15 minute stops in the At&t or apple store in the malls to play with the original ipod. So now I know the features and I have adapted to texting on it I think I should be good.
I will tell you one thing I work at 830 so I wont be one of those campers even though if there was a way I could goto work late that day I would. But since I have been talking about this phone everyday at work my boss already told me there is no way I can callout or be late this friday to get a cell phone.
My intentions of this post wasnt to sell you on this phone because Steve Jobs didnt cut me a check but I just wanted to help explain why I sold my 3 month old sidekick LX two weeks ago, and went 2 weeks without a phone to get the one phone I have been thinking about for hours into everyday.

Hancock To Gross $100 Milli

My nigga Will Smith has done it again. The West Philly/Overbrook rapper turned actor best known for numerous summer blockbusters is on pace to take in $100 million during the first week of his latest anti-hero movie, Hancock.
Opening day figures for the film—which has garnered mixed reviews from critics—grossed an estimated $40 million dollars coming into July 4. In addition to another big opener for Smith, he’s gotten other uses out of his Hancock character, and the suit worn in the movie.
"I took the suit home and my wife and I use it sometimes,” he says of the costume. “Just around the house. It's great." Hancock strays from the norm by offering up a hero cut from a different cloth than the Superman’s and Batman’s of the comic world.
"I loved the idea of an alcoholic, nihilistic, subversive superhero, fighting crime drunk," says the film’s director Peter Berg.
I watched this movie during the week and well although it wasnt bad it wasnt the best movie I seen in my life. It did have alot of funny scenes though. For those out there that watched this movie, I hope you stayed through the credits to see Mike Epps 1 minute clip with Hancock.

Nas Inks 1 Year Deal With Fila

Nas has inked a one-year partnership with athletic apparel company Fila, according to Billboard.com.
The deal stipulates that Fila will offer financial support for the rapper's print and TV ad campaign, as well as his upcoming tour in support of his untitled album, which is set to hit shelves July 15 via Def Jam. Nas will, in turn, wear Fila products, as well as "co-create an apparel line that draws from fashions of the late '80s."
For those wondering why Nas has decided to partner with a brand, an unusual move for the rapper, an explanation was offered: "My best friend Will and I loved Fila," said Nas, referring to childhood friend "Ill" Will Graham, who was shot and killed in 1992. . "It represented prestige and everything that was cool to us. When Will passed, we buried him in a black Fila sweat suit, so doing a deal with them has a lot of significance for me."
Fila president John Epstein also spoke on the partnership. "One of my executives spotted Nas shopping in our Manhattan store and struck up a conversation with him," said Epstein. "Nas isn't interested in selling out. He's interested in being true, and that fits with our brand."
"I had some trepidation, and then I started talking to 16- to 20-year-old kids in focus groups," Epstein continued. "They looked at me like I was crazy for not understanding his message of positive change. Nas is relevant to his followers and I don't have to understand it as long as they do."

Snoop Dogg Says Dr. Dre's Detox Is Coming

In promotion of last week's BET Awards Snoop Dogg spoke to Los Angeles radio mainstay Big Boy, and his Neighborhood Show about a number of upcoming things.
Presently working his Willie Nelson-assisted, Everlast-produced single "My Medicine" to radio and video, Snoop Dogg shocked some when he spoke about mentor Dr. Dre's long anticipated album Detox.
"That record is real it’s coming,” Snoop Dogg said. “You know me, I was starting to doubt it myself and then I went up there and [Dr. Dre] played so much music for me it knocked my head off."
The quote also leads many to question whether Snoop, Dre's most successful musical protege, besides Eminem, will be appearing on Detox if he merely heard it. In 1999, Snoop Dogg appeared on three songs from Dr. Dre's last album, 2001. Two of those appearances, "Still D.R.E." and "Next Episode" would be singles.
Snoop also added that Dr. Dre would be executive producing the Long Beach icon's next album. The last Snoop Dogg album that Dr. Dre has served in an executive role on was Doggstyle, Snoop's critically acclaimed 1993 debut.

Clipse/ Re-Up Gang Signs A Deal with Koch Records

The Clipse will most certainly be a busy group this year. After announcing that they would be releasing not only their third studio album (with Colombia Records) but also their Re-Up Gang debut, the question wasn’t a matter of when but where.
The answer comes today as The Clipse have signed a deal with Koch Records for The Re-Up Gang’s release The Clipse Present the Re-Up Gang, which has a tentative release date scheduled for August 5th. The album is expected to feature nine brand new songs with an added three tracks of unreleased remix material from the We Got It 4 Cheap Vol. 3 mixtape.
The album is headed by the newest single, “Fast Line” (which can be heard in our audio section). Produced by Scott Storch, it features a “cruising” mentality that is sure to bump in the car all summer long.
Pusha T was adamant about the deal, explaining the swift collaboration between both camps. “This time, [our manager] Tony Draper got with [KOCH General Manager] Alan Grunblatt to put together an official album with new music and let KOCH Records do what they do best. This release gives us something fresh in the marketplace to reward Re-Up fans while we continue to work on the Clipse album.”
Of course, it was timely placements of their We Got It 4 Cheap series that opened the doors for this to happen. “Everything happens for a reason. We put out the 'We Got it 4 Cheap' series on our own for the streets and that helped keep us visible and build the Re-Up name as an entity,” Said Pusha T.

LAX Pushed Back And The Game - Superman [Trailer]

LAX, the highly anticipated third album from The Game has been pushed back to an August 26 release date, the Black Wall Street CEO announced at his album listening party in Los Angeles last night.
Joining Game at the party were producers Cool & Dre], who contributed five tracks to LAX, including "Red Magic" and "My Life," both featuring Lil Wayne. Other producers to pitch tracks are Nottz, Jelly Roll, J.R. Rotem, Kanye West and - not reported last week The Trackmasters. Noticeably absent from the early tracklisting - which has yet to be finalized - was a collaboration with Nas, which Game recently confirmed to be a track dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Game arrived to the first listening session for his album before many of the guests, sitting outside in a black Bentley with his Black Wall Street affiliates in tow. In an emotional introduction, he narrated his life story to the audience - consisting of many VIPs in town for the BET Awards - from "a pretty smart little cool dude" to a basketball player, gangbanger and eventually drug dealer in Compton who survived being shot in the heart.
"Anybody that wants to know what it's like to get shot in the heart - I know," Game said. "I bleed this west coast shit."
Lastly, The Game has offered fans to design his next tattoo. Interested parties can view the rapper's Imeem pageand upload suggested designs.

The Game Superman Official Trailer. Snippet of the song can be heard on the trailer. It wasn't that much of a snippet but I really just want to hear the beat and the hook. I guess this was a good example of a trailer/ teaser.

HBO Documentary Films: Hard Times At Douglass High (HBO)
I am fresh off the couch from watching this HBO documentary, and for those who dont know me the Publisher/CEO and creator of this blog, well I am a elementary/ special education major at Temple University in Phila, Pa. My dream is to become a math teacher in the inner city of Philadelphia where I was born. Eventually I would like to be a principal of my high school. The great Overbrook high that Will Smith, Wilt Chamberlain and Guion Buford attended.
But this documentary was shot in 2005 and it raises some of the keys issues with this No Child Left Behind policy. NCLB was created under the Bush administration, and basically its a plan that no child can be left behind. They will continue to get pushed through the system whether they learn or not. Its really that simple minus all the technical stuff.
Now this movie shows some of the everyday problems that Philadelphia school district faces. If a school doesn't reach its Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) then the school may be subject to a takeover by the state (which they will reform the schools administration). Inorder to reach the AYP schools must pass state testing that we all as students took one day in another. As you may or may not know but for the schools that do poorly on these state exams, they continue to receive little to no additional funding the following school year as a result from their testing.
So how does a school improve when they state doesn't help them?
I mean I think of it as a bum on the street, they weren't born a bum on the street. They were once raised, educated and housed... a few bumps in the road and they had no one to turn to. And they are force to succeed in a society that only reimburse and recognize the good and successful. And you have this bum who is down and out but with a simple hand of help he could possibly turn his life around.
I mean the state knows what schools are failing and have limited amount of resources. Not giving them the additional funds and materials they may need to succeed like those schools who pass the test, doesn't make things right. But as a wise man once told me about the worlds jacked up economy "you need poor people in order to have rich people". So in this case I guess the school district never really expects to see every school in the state progress and reach state standards. Can you imagine a world with no dropouts and everyone went to college. But yet in still not everyone can goto college because the world needs janitors, bus drivers and so forth.
BUT IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS!
You cant expect a bum to live a decent or fair life if he has no job or income, no home, no access to a shower and clean clothes. So you cant expect a school to pass a state exam when they 15 books and 25 students in a class with a permanent substitute teacher (so books are shared and never taken home), over 60% of the teaching staff aren't certified to teach (example from the movie), and so forth. Really can this system succeed truthfully. If your confused think of it in baseball terms. Can your expect a team who's team salary is maybe $50 million, and you have a team like the Yankees and Red Sox spending over $100 million a year on their teams salaries? And we both know that the Red Sox and Yankees make the playoffs every year.
I mean this movie shows you some insights on the students and teachers perspectives so you see all angles from this inner city Baltimore school. Did I mention the school in the documentary had one of the state's top basketball team? If I am not mistaken but the team basketball team won the state championship the year before they taped this documentary. Does on court success mean anything when only person in their entire school received over 1000 out of 1600 on the SAT's?
As an education major you see movies like this almost all the time and you are very aware that this is very much going on today. This was just something I think you guys should watch if you have two hours to spare in front of your cable or satellite box one day.

Nas' New Tape Gets 'The Streets Ready' For Upcoming Album
"This sh-- is gonna have the streets right [and] have the streets ready for the album." 'Nuff said about Nas' new mixtape, The N----- Tape. Nas and DJ Green Lantern recently forged one of the best street CDs this year. Nas had to go through his vault and give up some rare and unused vocals to the Evil Genius, who created soundscapes around the words for soil-burning songs.
"I was like, 'Let me get some exclusives. I wanna make a movie,' " Green said of the project. "We went to the studio, and this man's work speaks for itself," Nas said. "He gave me some of the joints. Some of the joints sounded like they were right for the album. I had to snatch them for the album. We really getting it done. It's coming out right."
Sure enough, some of Green's material will find its way onto Nas' untitled official LP on July 15. "One and a half," Lantern said about how many records will appear on the opus. " 'Black President' is on there. There's another one called 'Like Me.' It was supposed to be for the mixtape. He gave me a cappellas that wasn't out yet. I made a song around it. New beat, had somebody come and make a hook. It's like some pimp sh--. Nas loved it. He put another verse on it and said, 'I need it for my album. Don't put it on the mixtape.' When they did the final cut of the album, ['Like Me'] got cut, but it's on the international release and the iTunes and Amazon.com exclusive."
Joints To Check For
"Cops Keep Firing." "I took the a cappella and made a verse, then Nas added an extra verse, because he was so inspired," Green Lantern explained.
"I had the rhymes for this last year," Nas added. "But I didn't want to do this kind of record until this man made me see this is the type of record I need to do."
»"Gangsta Rap" remix. "[Nas] said a couple of things in the verse I thought was good to start the tape off with," Green Lantern said. "I made a beat to kinda let his raps breathe so he could be rhyming. I wanted to let the rhymes say what it needed to. The beat wasn't too busy, but the beat was still hard. I wanted it to be a nice opener. Normally, somebody would start the tape with something people never heard before. I said, 'I'm just gonna do it.' That was really for the Nas fans, the rap zombies that are on top of everything."
»"Legendary." "Salaam Remi ... is scoring the [Mike] Tyson documentary," Green said. "Him and Nas have a great relationship, obviously, so maybe that will be on there. From hearing the song, I want to see that documentary. That 's one of the more fiery joints on there."
50 Cent Reacts To Ex's Restraining Order, ''She's Trying To Use [My Son] To Hurt Me As Best She Can''

50 Cent spoke candidly about his contentious relationship with his son's mother recently, claiming that she is using his son as a means to hurt him financially.
In a video posted on his website, ThisIs50.com, the hip-hop mogul sat for an interview at a Toronto, Canada hotel between concert appearances to address his ongoing feud with his son's mother, Shaniqua Tompkins and the impact his son has had on his rap career.
"He's the reason I'm successful," Fif said of his son Marquise. "My son is my motivation. He's the reason why I changed directions."
"It's crazy, I go through so much with his moms," he continued. "We're not friends anymore. It's a huge adjustment when you have a person who has a sense of entitlement because she was around during that time period when I didn't have much. She feels like she should be entitled to the world."
The two have been at it, in and out of court, for years over custody of their son, child support payments, and Fif's million dollar mansion Tompkins and his son were living in before it mysteriously burned down last month.
Tompkins immediately and publicly pointed the finger at 50 as being behind the blaze. He responded with a defamation suit and she fired back with a restraining order against the rapper. But Fif seems to think it's about the money - since her child support payments were chopped from $25,000 to $6,700 a month - and sticking it to him, more than anything.
"She's really having a bigger adjustment to her personal lifestyle because she has a bag habit that costs more than the child support," Fif said. But that's pretty much all he'd in respect to his son.
"I don't really say how I feel about her because my son might see the tape, you know," he said. "But it's hard when it gets to the point when a woman is trying to keep your son away from you. That's the only thing she got left, so she's trying to use him to hurt me as best she can. It'll work itself out, it's just a pain in the ass."
The two will be returning to court July 15th to discuss the restraining order and again on the 17th for family court.

Rick Ross And Foxy Brown To Announce Engagement

According to weekly print publication Hip-Hop Weekly, Rick Ross and Foxy Brown's romantic relationship is not the publicity stunt that many skeptics wagered. Or, if it is, the Brooklyn/Miami couple is taking things a bit further.
The issue cover story alleges that Foxy has vacated her northern New Jersey home to live with the recent rap superstar in his Miami mansion. The highlight of the "exclusive report" is speculation that the couple will announce their secret engagement to the public during tomorrow's (June 24) airing of the BET Awards.
Both artists have released albums this year. Ross' Trilla remained the top-selling Hip Hop album prior to Lil Wayne's release of Tha Carter III. Foxy's Brooklyn's Don Diva has not fared as well on the charts or in critical response. Already, Brown admitted displeasure with her label and then-management over the project.

The Game Makes Regional Remixes To Single, Readies Mixtape

The Game has collaborated with several artists to create regional remixes of his current single, "Game's Pain" featuring Keyshia Cole. According to Billboard.Biz, the remixes will be hitting radio early next month.
Jimmy Rosemond, Game's manager, says that Young Buck and Bun B will be on the Southern remix, Jadakiss and Fat Joe will appear on the New York remix, and E-40 and Ice Cube will appear on the West Coast remix.
In addition, Game is busy prepping and duet mixtape with Young Buck hosted by deejays Skee, Nu Jerzey Devil and Haze, due out in July.
There is currently no word whether Game and Buck's mixtape will center around their beef with 50 Cent, but it would seem that it is the driving force behind the collaboration.

Omarion Signs With Timbaland's Label

It has been confirmed that following his departure from Sony earlier this year, R&B singer Omarion has signed with hit-maker Timbaland's record label - Mosley Music Group - an off-shoot of Interscope Records.
The former B2K leader's debut for the label, his third studio album overall, is slated for release before the end of the year with Timbaland serving as its executive producer. Keri Hilson as well as Justin Timberlake have also been lined up to feature on the project.
Speaking about the new album and label home, the 23 year old said:
"I'm really excited about this project. Timbaland is like family to me, so it's always great to work with family and I think this is going to be my best album yet. I'm happy to call Mosley Music Group my new home." {Source}
Here's hoping things work out for the better this go round. I've never doubted Omarion's talent; I do, however, wonder if he has what it takes to stand out among the Chris Brown's and Usher's that dominate his field. But he has signed with Timbaland so he will continue to make some more Ice Box music. But how will Chris Stokes feel about this deal?

Young Jeezy Arrested for Driving Like a Maniac
According to TMZ, Jeezy got picked up last night in Atlanta for doing pretty much everything you’re not allowed to do in a car.
Cops arrested the Jeez around 2:30 AM on a whole mess o’ charges, including DUI, speeding, reckless driving, no tags, driving with an open container and no proof of insurance. Somebody get Geico on the phone!
Jeezy — whose real name is Jay Jenkins — was released this morning on bail. He’ll be back in court on July 17.
Some of those charges are pretty serious, but after R.Kelly and Clifford, really, what case can’t be beat. To be honest, when I saw that headline my initial thought was that the Feds pinched him on something cocaine related in the wake of those recent, and surely unfounded, allegations.
What would ever make anybody think that Mr. 17.5 could be involved with coke?
UPDATE: Jeezy says his plates fell off in the car wash Statement from Jeezy’s lawyer, Scott Leemon, after the jump.
“Last night, at approximately 2:30am, Young Jeezy was pulled over by the Atlanta Police Department shortly after leaving the studio to work on his new album, “The Recession.” After being charged with various automobile related offenses, Jeezy was quickly processed and released. A court date has been scheduled and Jeezy looks forward to getting the matter resolved.”

Does Love Exist In The City Of Brotherly Love? (Philly When Will The Violence Stop?)

Minutes after the music from Strawberry Mansion High School's commencement died down today, a fight between two cliques broke out and an 18-year-old graduate was shot in the back.
The shooting happened just after 4:15 p.m. down Broad Street from Temple University's Liacouras Center, where Strawberry Mansion's graduation ceremony was held. Amin and Kathy Caldwell said their son, who suffered a fractured rib and a bruised lung, was alert and doing fine. He was even laughing.
The couple said their son was a bystander when the shots were fired. The brawl and ensuing gunplay began not long after students, clutching diplomas and taking photos, spilled onto Broad after the ceremony ended about 4 p.m.
(Remind you Broad street is the biggest and busiest street in Philadelphia, They have also said there was Temple Police in sight)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two people are dead and three others in critical condition in separate shootings across Philadelphia overnight, police said this morning.
Since just after 7:30 p.m. last night (May 16, 2008) there have been seven shooting incidents in the city and in Overbrook an woman was stabbed numerous times. Three people were hospitalized but stable after other violent incidents overnight.
At 7:30 p.m., a 43-year-old man was shot several times in the area of 54th Street and Chester Avenue in Kingsessing. He was listed in critical condition at the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania.
At 10:21 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 2900 block of Tulip Street in Kensington. He was listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.
At 10:56 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the right hip and leg in the area of Sixth and Moore Streets in South Philadelphia.
At 10:57 p.m., a 24-year-old woman suffered stab wounds in her face, arms and legs in the 1100 block of North 63d Street in Overbrook.
At 12:30 a.m., a home invasion suspect was shot in the leg by police in the 1200 block of South 24th Street in South Philadelphia.
At 1:54 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in the back in the 1600 block of South 21st Street in Point Breeze. He was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:26 a.m.
At 5:35 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the head inside a residence in the 1600 block of Ringgold Street in South Philadelphia. He was listed as critical at the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania.
Lets not forget Philly is the same place where a cop was killed a little over a month ago. And his alleged killers were beaten down Rodney King style on camera. Philly is the same city that has more murders then days last year. The same city where Marvin Harrison had his gun incident in. I work with kids and yesterday a 4th grader brought in a BB Gun to school and was arrested and he was suppose to graduate today from his elementary school.
I mean when will this stop? Why does the news on philly.com always have to be about shootings and murders? No matter of fact why does the headline have to read multiple shootings all within minutes and hours of one another?
This is the city I live in. The city where gun shots at night around the corner make you happy it wasnt on the block you were on. The city where the news at night reports shootings like espn reports baseball scores. Its til the point they dont have reporters report from the scene no more because there arent enough news reporters to go to every shooting scene in the city.
